In the past, it was the administrative center of the outlying islands. In 1920, it recruited people to build the “Taipa New Office”. In 1992, the Macau government promulgated a decree to include the former island city hall building in the list of buildings with architectural and artistic value. Rebuilt from 2002 to 2006, it was transformed into a venue to preserve the history and culture of Cotai on May 7, 2006.

The pawnshop industry in Macau has a long history. “Tak Seng On ” was a pawn shop opened in the sixth year of the Republic of China (1917). In order to preserve the history and culture of Macao, the Cultural Affairs Bureau has repaired the “Tak Seng On ” and set up a pawnshop exhibition hall. The “Tak Seng On s” pawnshop consists of two parts: a pawnshop and a goods building. Its architectural design and interior furnishings have the basic patterns and characteristics of Chinese pawnshops in the early Republic of China.
By visiting the pawn tools, bills and records displayed in the exhibition hall, you can understand the operation mode and process of the pawn industry in the past. In September 2004, the “Tak Seng On” pawnshop exhibition hall was awarded the “2004 UNESCO Asia-Pacific Cultural Heritage Protection Award”.
